Youth groups in Bavaria
Step by step - becoming a youth leader!
Counting more than 600 000 members (both rescue personnel and supporters) the "Deutsche Lebens-Rettungs-Gesellschaft" (German Live Saving Federation) is the worlds largest volunteer water rescue service.
More than 18.000 children and young men and women up to the age of 26 years engage in the activities of the youth section of DLRG in Bavaria.
About 100 rescue teams throughout Bavaria are trained and on duty for every aspect of water rescue such as lake watch, white water rescue and ice rescue.
Beyond emergency service and specialized training we take an active part in youth work. Educating at schools as well as at our own evening trainings we lay stress on accident prevention and provide a basis for adolescents to evolve into responsible and active members of society.
The association, which ist organized in more than 100 groups in Bavaria, is divided into 8 districts similar to the political districts. Our groups are active in different themes concerning to rescue activites at the water and around the water.
Mostly in the youth groups are also offered social projects for children and the youth.

The youth is trained to cope with the various tasks of water rescue in Bavarias diverse natural and artificial aquatic recreation areas. Technical comprehension and physical fitness both are needed to perform as lifeguard, rescue diver, boat crew and in the many jobs in case of emergency.
We are field-tested to provide safety for those who want to relax and enjoy the great places our country's nature offers.
However, our widespread activities don't stop with breasting the waves. Beside the purposive instructions such as beginners and ambitious swimming courses, scuba diving and technical skills training, we offer swimming courses for the handicapped, the elderly and babies, organize pool and beach parties, rescue competitions and take on our social responsibility in various social projects.
Social and ecological projects for instance are violence de-escalation ("helping hands"), the environmental project "AQUAmobil" (PowerPoint-Presentation, 6,4 MB) and basic safety instruction for ice and waterside.

Teaching through experience is typical for our kind of education. We think that sensible and constructive use of leisure time is essential for young people. For that we give the basis by organizing youth meetings, children camps and international youth exchanges. Children and young people from all parts of Bavaria participating in our programs, enjoy the variety of the youth work of the German Life Saving Federation in Bavaria.
